The attack comes as Peru is gripped by weeks of anger and sometimes growing political and social unrest violent anti-government protests sparked by the overthrow of the country’s president last month.

Glencore’s mine, the country’s largest, was operating at “limited” capacity earlier this week due to protests.

Glencore did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
