Government backers of the Wales Gas to Energy Project (WGTE) promise it will cut electricity bills by up to 50 per cent. However, all available data shows that this is not a reasonable expectation. In fact, an analysis of the $2 billion project shows that even at today’s high world prices for crude oil, the project would only marginally reduce GPL’s electricity generation costs.
