Russia and China want to further strengthen energy cooperation at a time when sanctions have drastically reduced Russia’s energy links with the West, participants at the Russia-China Energy Economic Forum said on November 29.

China is an increasingly important energy partner for Russia, which is aiming to divert amounts of hydrocarbons that traditionally flowed to western countries after they imposed sanctions in response to February’s invasion of Ukraine.
