Crude stocks fell by 6.426 million barrels this week for the fourth straight week, American Petroleum Institute (API) data showed on Tuesday, after falling 7.85 million barrels the previous week. Analysts were expecting a withdrawal of 3.884 million barrels.

U.S. crude inventories have grown just 6 million barrels so far this year, according to API data. Meanwhile, crude oil stored in the country’s strategic petroleum reserves has fallen nearly 32 times that number this year.
